Weekend Project – Mac Mini Cube with Virtual Keyboard
by Nora Rubinoff on July 19, 2008
Rich Willis documented a clever use and weekend project for a Mac Mini Cube in an old Apple G4 Cube shell. Starting with an old Apple G4 Cube Acrylic Case, Rich used a saber saw on a very slow blade speed to create the necessary openings. The process of creating the openings took hours to complete as sawing too quickly heated the acrylic too much.
Next, Rich used a plastic bathroom towel rod to create supports. After a few days of effort (he allowed the cube to cool periodically throughout the process), the end result was a unique housing for a Mac Mini.
Needed items:
- Apple G4 Cube Acrylic Case
- Plastic bathroom towel rod
- Saber Saw
- and of course, a Mac Mini
I love the additional tweak of adding a virtual keyboard as a desktop space saver.
